Scott Plumbing of Woodstock Plumbing Tip #1 - How to Repair a Clogged Sink

November 24th, 2008 · No Comments

Some folks around the Woodstock and Atlanta area feel a lot of pressure to try Do-It-Yourself plumbing repairs, even if they’ve never held a pipe wrench in their life. Well that’s fine if you’ve got a lot of time and a lot of patience. But the wise know that calling in a professional plumber is ultimately much faster and more likely to get the repair done right. And when you factor in the value of your precious time, and the cost of buying tools and parts for trial and error experimental plumbing projects, hiring a good, professional, honest plumber is going to end up being the less expensive way to solve your plumbing problems.

So, the best thing to do when you have a clogged sink or any plumbing need in Woodstock, Alpharetta, Atlanta, and the surrounding areas is to call Scott Plumbing at 770-318-1615 and get it fixed fast, right, and at a reasonable price.

But if you really want to try your hand at fixing your own clogged sink, here are a couple of things you might try:

A. BOILING WATER (for metal pipes only) – Water boils at 212 degrees Fahrenheit and plastic PVC pipes get soft at 175 degrees Fahrenheit. So do not pour boiling water into a drain that has plastic pipes. But if you have metal pipes, slowly pouring a gallon of boiling hot water (not just hot tap water) might be enough to break up the congealed soap and hair that is blocking the pipe.

B. PLUNGER – A cup plunger does not have the flange that folds up into the middle like the type used for toilets. So a cup plunger is what you’ll need for clearing a clogged sink drain. Seal off the overflow outlet (the open hole found near the top of most bathroom sink bowls) with duct tape or by stuffing it with a wet rag. Remove the drain stopper or basket strainer if you can. Fill the sink up to the halfway point with water. Put the plunger over the drain and press it hard against the surface to form a good tight seal. Then plunge with quick sharp thrusts several times and check to see if it drains. If you’re able to unclog the drain, be sure to remove the duct tape or wet rag from the overflow hole.

C. CALL SCOTT PLUMBING 770-318-1615 – We know exactly what to do and we have all of the professional grade plumbing tools and equipment to properly unclog your sink drain. We will be in and out quickly. And we will clean up after ourselves so you don’t have to lift a finger. Well okay, you will have to lift one finger to dial our phone number 770-318-1615, but that’s it. We promise!
